To begin, connect and unlock your Ledger Wallet

When you launch the Ledger Wallet Bitcoin application on your computer, a message prompts: "To begin, connect and unlock your Ledger Wallet".

It means you are required to connect your Ledger device to open the application.

With a Nano S or a Blue

Connect your device, and enter your PIN code. The wallet will synchronize the information from the blockchain and open. If it doesn't open it may be because:

  • the "browser support" option is set on YES. 
    Please disable the "browser support" setting in the Bitcoin application on your Nano S. This setting must be off (NO) to let your Ledger application recognize your device, and on (YES) when you want to use your device with another application.
  • your cable doesn't work
    - if so try with a good quality data + power cable
  • the device can't communicate with the USB port
    - if so try on another USB port Type A, only on USB1 or USB2 (not USB3)
  • a security program avoids your device to communicate with your computer
    - if so, kill all the other programs that run at the same time: firewall, antivirus, etc.
  • you need to reinstall your Ledger Wallet Bitcoin application 
    1. In your Chrome browser go to chrome://extensions/
    2. Click on the bin below "Ledger Wallet Bitcoin"
    3. Go to https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ledger-wallet-bitcoin/kkdpmhnladdopljabkgpacgpliggeeaf
    4. Click on the "Add to Chrome" blue button and launch it again
  • you need to reinstall the Bitcoin application on your Ledger device
    1. In the Ledger Manager, click on the bin below the Bitcoin icon
    2. Once the app is removed from your device click on the green arrow below the Bitcoin icon
    3. Confirm the installation on your device if required


With a Nano or a HW.1

Just connect your device, you'll be prompted to a page where you can enter your PIN code. If it doesn't open, disconnect and reconnect your device, kill the application and launch it again. If it still doesn't work, the device may be not recognized by your computer, for example because:

  • you run on a non compatible OS
    Ledger works on 
    • Windows (7+)
    • Mac (10.8+)
    • Linux (please setup the udev rules)
    • Chrome OS
  • the device can't communicate with the USB port
    - if so try on another USB port Type A, only on USB1 or USB2 (not USB3)

  • a security program avoids your device to communicate with your computer
    - if so, kill all the other programs that run at the same time: firewall, antivirus, etc.

  • your device is not updated, if so go to fup.hardwarewallet.com and follow the instructions - take care to have your correct 24 words not to lose your funds.
